This is too much for a test.
If Dad drives me, we'll have to leave very early in the morning, before five. He'll have to drive three hours down there and three hours back. Scratch that. Dad, by himself in the car for six hours? (Three technically, but I'd be sleeping on the way down there, so it wouldn't help.) No. He's not used to long drives anymore. When we went to Hershey at the end of August, Mom did ALL the driving. The one time she let him drive, she purposely had him get off at the rest area and switched with him.
If I take the bus, I don't spend a lot of money on the fare, but I'll need a hotel room, because the only bus that'll get me to Harrisburg in the morning will get me there at 7:45am, and it leaves NY at 3:30am, and there is no WAY I'm doing that. Besides that, the bus isn't that close to the testing site. Fifteen minutes is no time. I should be getting there at the time the bus arrives.
The hotel thing, there are two hotels (Homewood Suites and Hilton Garden) right next to each other at the location of the test. One hotel (HS) IS the location of the test. They're both owned by Hilton and both stupidly expensive. One (the actual location) is booked full, the other wants $169 for the night. No. There's a Howard Johnson near the location, but not near the bus. No matter what I do, I'm going to end up catching a cab. (The only good thing about it is I can have the Homewood Suites call a cab for me.)
Mom mentioned flying. I could fly. I could leave at some point on the 15th and return after the test on the 16th. Problem: I don't know exactly when I'll be able to leave the test site, and there's that two-hour thing with checking in at the airport. (I'd have no luggage, really, but...) Whatever I do, it'll cost me around $400, and that's looking on Expedia for prices including airfare and lodging (at the HoJo, because it's the closest hotel to the test site I've noticed). That does NOT make me happy. I have plans for my money through the end of the damn year, and I finally have a WORKABLE plan, and I do NOT need to screw things up with the unplanned $400.
I'm sick of the organizers of these tests trying to weed people out. That's the only reason this test isn't in NY. They want to see how many people will drop everything for this. It's like the stupid USPS exam being held the Friday before Memorial Day. At least THAT was in the city.
Just have the damn test in NY or somewhere closer than freaking Harrisburg and not so-and-so miles from Hershey. And not on a TUESDAY, geez.
I'm seriously about to just say screw it. I probably couldn't handle that job, anyway. I don't deal well with stress.
