Step one.

So I was browsing NaNoWriMo's forums (because, really, what else do I look at online these days?) and happened into the Big, Fun, Scary forums to look at what everyone's planning to do for themselves over the course of this year. In a weight loss thread, someone mentioned SparkPeople, and several people agreed that it's a great site and they've lost weight since becoming members. I took a look around (FREE site, no restrictions on how much non-members can look at, yay!), and decided to sign up.

Things I'm going to do every day from now on:
--Don't drink soda
... and I'm going to try to include diet sodas in this as well. I haven't had any soda since... Tuesday, I think. Wednesday I went to the seaport and opted for water instead of the usual Mountain Dew, and that was the kick-off point. I don't know what made me get water, but I'm going to stick to it. I've been drinking apple juice for those times when I need something sweet, but mainly water.

--Do 15 minutes of exercise while watching TV
I CAN SO DO THAT. I watch a lot of TV. When I get home, TV's on. And it's usually the kind of TV you don't really have to pay a whole lot of attention to--sitcoms I've seen every episode of, truTV (I don't care if it fits, I hate that name), and the news, which, lately, I haven't really been paying too much attention to. Because of the way my room's set up, my computer desk is across from the TV, so I spend my TV-watching time in my desk chair. There's not a whole lot of space between them to do a LOT of moving around... but I can pull out the treadmill. I think I'd do better with a stationary bike, though. Need to talk Mom into splitting the cost for one with me...

--Listen to a get-up-and-go song every day
Okay, so that's an easy one, since music is my life and all. But it does work.

They set me up as going from 178 (that's what I was last time I weighed myself, admittedly after enjoying a few break-and-bake Ultimates chocolate chip cookies... which I think MIGHT have affected my weight. A little.) to 133, which is basically where I want to end up anyway. Somewhere between 130-140 lbs. I don't look as heavy as I am. And this isn't really heavy, and I know that. No one needs to tell me. But for my frame and body type, it's not healthy.

I'm going to have to start counting my calories and being very good about not eating certain things, because there are things I eat sometimes that blow half the calories I should be eating in a whole day. (Bye bye, Wendy's Baconator. I hardly knew ye. Well, no, I knew you too well. You need to be less tasty.)

Will check out Curves next week... probably the one in Brooklyn. Or maybe both, and I'll see which I like better.

So anyway, that's it. Wish me luck.
