Waitlisted at Smith!
Mar. 30th, 2011 12:04 amIt's not a rejection and not a (total) acceptance, but it's a foot in the door!
The problem with the waitlist is, from what I've seen, they won't get back to me until mid-May or so, after the typical May 1st deposit deadline of most schools. The way it's looking now, SCAD is out. I doubt SVA's an option. Juniata is definitely up there. (Arianne's helping me look for scholarships and was originally skeptical that I'd be happy at Juniata with their small art department, but she just told me today that she knows someone who went there and he loved it.) I haven't made up my mind about MIAD yet; still waiting for my financial aid award letter and eventually visit. They gave me $8,000 per year scholarship, which is more than SCAD gave me, but still not great. I imagine, if I were to get into Smith, they'd give me a lot, but the price tag's also higher for Smith than it is for Juniata, so there might be a significant difference in the aid packages. I've gotten to visit Juniata in-depth, but not Smith. I only got to spend a few hours at Smith. I think part of the reason Mount Holyoke was so much better for me was the amount of time we spent there; way more than at Smith. And the nontraditional students we met at MHC made us brownies. It just felt very personal. The gorgeous library didn't hurt. I'm still in love with that building.
All I got out of Smith was a welcome, a Q&A session, and a tour before we ended up having to head to the bus to come home. Not their fault, of course. If I'd been up there on my own and not as part of a group, I'd have stayed longer and explored. A few hours of visit time are not enough to make a good decision. XD;;
Whatever, I didn't get another definite rejection from both of the Seven Sisters I applied to, so that's a plus and I'm feeling pretty good about it. ^_^
I have a LOT of work to do. We put our frames/work surfaces together in A&DS; the combines will be due in two weeks or so, most likely. I still have to come up with an idea. Someone reading Bomb by Gregory Corso and throw something at me. XD;;; I have to draw the first page of my comic for GN and write a 400-1000-word piece for Fiction tomorrow. Basically I need to do those two things right now. I'm probably skipping Creative Writing Club tomorrow, but people will understand. I have stupid amounts of work to do this semester. There's also the matter of a take-home quiz in Astronomy, but it's not really a quiz, more a math question that Prof. Noel wants to see the calculations for. Easily something I can work out and double-check, yay internet. The comic page for GN is at least under way; I've drawn the panels, I just need to draw the contents of the panels. Working out where everything is on the page was necessary, though.
Okay. Sleep. I am truly exhausted.
