It started, really, late last night/early this morning. Craig was playing MGS3, and I fell asleep on it, but I woke up every once in a while and watched for a bit. Fell asleep at midnight or so. At two or three something in the morning, he was working on beating a boss (The End) and had been running around the forest looking for/dodging sniper fire for about half an hour, so I stayed up to help him find The End's footprints/The End himself. Finally beat him, and Craig kept going. (Little did we know, you can skip that fight entirely--and I knew one of the tricks to it, but I couldn't remember which boss the trick was for. He knows both tricks now, but he says sniping The End in the head when he first sees him and watching him explode in his wheelchair would be more fun than the old-age trick.) By three, he's really supposed to shut the games off, but I didn't bother saying anything. We were all tired, and neither parent was going to get up to bother him about it.

I basically watched him go through the whole game after that, and helped him out with the "fight" with The Sorrow (I figured it out, but accidentally hit Continue anyway and I had to go through it again, haha). By the fight with Volgin, I was totally awake. We didn't go back to sleep after that. I didn't start nodding off again until somewhere around noon. Craig was fueled solely by coffee. He hadn't slept at all since five yesterday evening, when we all went out to go watch Iron Man.

Told Mom I might not be much company in the car, what with getting less than two hours of uninterrupted sleep, but I managed to stay up the entire trip back to the city after we stopped at Stewart's for ice cream in Goshen. It's now 8pm, and I just had a glass of soda... which wasn't exactly intelligent since it has caffeine.

BUT. I don't have work tomorrow. Jury duty's at 11am, so I can at least sleep in if my internal clock shuts off for JUST this night. I'm really running on fumes right now. I bet Craig went to sleep as soon as we left (he didn't want to sleep before then) and didn't wake up for at least five hours, hehe. That's the first all-nighter he's pulled in a long time.

Related to Craig: Mom and Dad had a talk with him. I stayed out of it, but I listened in from the kitchen. Seems the problem really is with him, not with any other kids. Mom thinks it might be because he holds Matt in such high regard, because Matt's a smart kid... but Matt's really struggling with math and possibly some other subjects (transition from junior high school to high school, probably), and Craig might feel that if Matt can't do it, what chance does he have at doing it? I'm not sure what the problem is, but it seems like they may have gotten through to him. (Mom told me she also told Dad off a bit about how he handles the situation. Dad handles it the way his dad handled things, and Grandpa was very tough on him. Basically, Dad needs to back off a bit.) I had a really short chat with Craig about how I'm glad he's going to make a committment to get his grades right by the end of the year, because I want to see him do well. I also told him I'd get him two games if he did well at year's end. I don't mind doing that. I was going to buy him Rainbow Six Vegas 2 anyway.

So, we'll see what happens.

You seem to be called for jury duty a lot!

I'm glad that your brother's school problems are just typical teenage stuff and not anything horrible. It's not uncommon for some kids to purposefully hold themselves back, especially if they believe it'll keep them in high regard with someone else or not be teased by other kids or something like that. And at that age, you really don't think about how bad grades may affect you in the future. I hope he gets the message!
