No class tonight.
Dec. 21st, 2006 08:05 pmThe school we were holding the classes in decided they didn't want us there anymore, and didn't tell the FDNY until the very last minute, so they had no time to tell us the classes have been moved to 114th Street between 7th and 8th Aves. Everyone was getting to the school just to be told by one lone firefighter that we moved locations.
I've been brainfarting all day. Today I mistook Nancy's telling me the printer needed a new toner cartridge for the copier needing more toner, and ended up getting the toner refill stuck in the copier. A technician had to come out to fix it. (This is my fault for hearing one thing and doing something else, but also, Canon's way of putting new toner into their machines SUCKS. Freaking refills.)
So anyway, it doesn't surprise me now to know that I took the 1 train to 116th (after having to take it down to 96th because a stalled train made us go express five or so stops), got out, walked to 114th, and down past Broadway and Amsterdam (after asking a guy who knew the neighborhood where the school was between 7th and 8th, to which he said "114th's right here, but 7th and 8th are way down that way", and I decided, okay, so I'll walk) to Morningside Drive. You know what's at Morningside Drive? A park. A park that stretches as far as the eye can see with limited street lamps. That park seems to sit on a large hill. Again, it would be a lot easier to see in daylight.
As I stood there, looking out over the hill at the buildings below, it dawned on me: 114th between 7th and 8th. Wrong part of Manhattan entirely. And the only way to get to that part of Manhattan that I could think of, besides hailing a cab, was to take the 1 down to 59th, grab the C (because I think the A goes express past the stop), and take THAT to 116th.
"Fuck it," I thought.
And so, here I am. I'll study the books I have and read the Arco manual online to make up for missing this class. I'm going to wash my hands and get something to nibble on, and probably go to bed soon, because I went to bed later than I should have and got woken up before 5:30 this morning thanks to Kenyatta screaming at her dumb husband (I assume, anyway) for being out all night.
