So, stuff.
Sep. 14th, 2011 05:13 pmSchool stuff:
--1-page paper to write for Computer Science, due tomorrow night
--Rewrite of another student's paper for Religion due Saturday night
--6 cups due for Explorations of Clay tomorrow afternoon
I have five cups DEFINITELY made. I may have to add a sixth. I think I might actually have six, but one is either a crappy cup, or one is just a cylinder with no bottom. I'm pretty sure I actually have one of each... so in actuality I do have six cups. I'm going to go to the studio later to see exactly what I have, and whether or not I want to change anything. Cups are so much harder than teapots...
The paper for Religion... Don gave us a paper that was actually turned in by a student a few years back. The paper is atrocious. The argument is supposed to be why it's better to be Christian than Hindu in American society. That's fine, right? Except (a) the title was "Why it is better to be Christian than Hindu", with no mention of society whatsoever (and set off an instantaneous red flag for me, which, sure enough, was followed through in the rest of the paper), and (b) the paper contains so much subjective information and confusion that it was just kind of infuriating to read. The guy in question was raised Christian and believes that's better than Hindu because he's confused by Hinduism, and that's fine, but the paper's not written in an objective sense. It's all about how Hinduism is confusing and their foods are weird and their gods are funny-looking and they "don't know which god to believe in". (And Hinduism doesn't give you a set of morals and knowledge of right from wrong. Err...) SO, our task is to go through that paper, highlight it, mark it up, add comments... and then rewrite the paper objectively while keeping his point of view. The point is to get this guy an A. We've had a very easy time of it so far, but I think this is where it gets interesting. We also have a test next week. I believe I have three tests next week. I'm only taking three classes that can actually give tests. -_- Lots of studying to do this weekend.
The paper for Computer Science is... ugh. BORING. I get more out of that class by actually programming than reading about it. Yes, I know, we need to understand the ins and outs of programming. Still boring. Thank god it's only a page. I'm starting to memorize the opening lines of programs now, finally. Every once in a while I need to check a previous program to get the syntax right, but I'm getting there.
Decided not to try for credit in 3D Design. I asked Bethany what they do, and it sounds much more interesting than what we ended up doing in A&DS. It would help me grow as an artist to do the things she mentioned.
I think I have an allergy to something in the cleaner being used in Baker Refectory. I've developed a redding of the skin, in the same spot, for the second time since the end of August. Doesn't hurt, doesn't itch, and is slightly raised. It's like three dots and a wide check mark or something. o_o I tend to rest my right arm in about that spot on the edge of the table. I went to the nurse just to check it out, and they think it's just a reaction the cleaner. They told me to come back if I notice redness in other areas. I think I might see when this one disappears, then maybe contact the table again, or do so with my other arm, just to see. I'm really curious. I've had exactly one other allergic reaction in my life, and that was from salami that must have had some kind of dye or chemical in it; I broke out in a rash on my arms and face. (To this day I haven't gotten a sandwich from that place, even though they've since switched to Boar's Head meats.)
ANYWAY. Work. Sigh. At least I'm done with classes for today. And I can do my homework for Career Planning, for the next few weeks, in one sitting. And I've actually done it before, in FPA at LaGuardia, so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing.
I wanna draw. ._. Stupid homework.
Tonight: PAWS meeting, featuring free pizza! I can skip going to Baker for dinner. I think I'm going to work on CS right now, go to PAWS, and then go to the studio afterwards to check my cups and possibly make a new one. And maybe some handles. Because I haven't punished myself enough yet.
