I'm making a dresser.

I already cut out a rectangle in the dictionary; I need to smooth the lines out a bit, but otherwise, I'm done with that. With the rest of the pages, I'm going to make it look like a bedroom dresser, put stuff on it (including a mini easel and painting that I'll get and paint either tomorrow or Monday), and use two or three small boxes to make drawers that'll actually pull out to reveal something. (Not sure on that yet.) I got some silver cardstocky paper that I'll use as the mirror above the dresser's surface. Wanted an actual mirror, but I didn't measure the size of the cutout before I went to Michael's yesterday, so paper will have to do. As for the miniature painting, I think it might be a mini version of the "still life self-portrait" we did back in Beginning Painting. I can bring a picture of it to show my classmates if they want to see the full-size one.

... And a day after I typed this, I FINALLY finished cutting out the grooves for the drawers. Holy CRAP that took forever. I kept running into the problem of cutting a narrower hole the deeper I went and having to fix it. Waiting for the glue to dry on the pages (again) and for the paint on the boxes to dry before I glue the covers for the drawers into the book. I still haven't put anything on the book yet! I'm still making the thing look like a dresser. -_- Once I'm done, I'm thinking I'm going to just load it with stuff, because I'm not the neatest person in the world and my desks always gets cluttered with crap. XD;; The things I cut out from the other book could be posters. Tempted to take the 11" x14"canvas board I still haven't used yet and use it as a wall behind the dresser, especially since I need to find a way to prop up the mirror side of the dictionary. I could put the cutouts on that, maybe design some mini posters to look like things on my actual walls. The only problem, still, is what to put in the drawers. I have three 12"x12" sheets of styrofoam that I'm thinking of cutting into different shapes and painting. Paintbrush(es), palette, something video game-related.

Anyway, now that I'm done drawing, the rest of the process should go pretty quickly. Yay for that. Thing's due in two days. And then we have ANOTHER project due. ^^; I just hope this one comes out the way I want it to. I swear, I've had to do more sculpture in this class than I've EVER done. The problem-solving aspect of it is kind of fun, though.

I think my hands were/are so tired from carving all day, when I heated up some fried rice, I lost my grip and dropped the whole bowl full on the carpet near the kitchen. It was probably almost half of the quart. -_- My fingers feel kind of bruised, one on each hand, and I managed to stab one of them with my X-Acto knife (which has thankfully been dulled quite a bit due to all the paper cutting), so it hurts right at the top joint. I'm not working anymore tonight; I think I need a break. The drawers are more or less done (although there's some issue with sliding them in and out, which might mean MORE carving), and all I need to do is paint the rest of the book before I start putting things together. Thinking I'll go to Blick tomorrow and get that mini easel and canvas. If I still have a problem with the drawers on Tuesday, I'll skip putting things inside and just have things on top. I'm trying to go for an interactive sculpture, though, so we'll see what happens.

Smith College isn't going to their waiting list this year. Didn't get the letter yet, but I've been watching the forum of College Confidential and two people have already confirmed it. Ah, well. I've been set on Juniata for a while now. I'm not disappointed. I'm just happy they had me on their waitlist in the first place; that means they saw something in me, and that's always a good thing.

Know what? I need to sleep. I'll work more tomorrow.
