meitantei_cj: (APH - America - Huh?)

So there was a guy yesterday, while I was buying a bunch of scratch-off tickets for the boss (it was Boss's Day, and kind of a last-minute gift), and a coworker from one of the businesses around the area, buying 1,060 Mega Millions games. And then the winning ticket was drawn in Virginia. XD; Wow.

ANYWAY.

Talked to Craig, and he really doesn't want to live here anymore. He wants to come back to NY, to get away from Dad, who ticks him off. (I told him last night, he and Mom are similar and get along better, and me and Dad are similar and get along better. Craig and I have always been very different people.) He's not doing his homework because he's pissed at Dad. I tried tp tell him he's just sabotaging himself, and Dad doesn't lose anything by him not doing what he's supposed to do. Dad's done. He's done his time, he's retired, he can do what he wants. Craig is 17 and has a year of high school left after this, and then what?

I told him to talk to Mom about it when she gets here. Dad may stay home today instead of heading out with us, so if Craig wants to talk to Mom without him around, that's the time to do it.

Meh. I worry about him. I don't know if he actually listened to me when I spoke to him.

I'm taking the ENTIRE week off next week, yo. I have enough time, so I'm going all out. Or something. (Still can't spend money until Wednesday. XDD)

Book shipped, and unfortunately had to be a new book. I blame the professor for not telling the bookstore which book we needed earlier, because the book's being used by a good ten classes. Sob. Oh well. Having it shipped to work, so as long as it gets to me by Friday (which it better--it might even get there tomorrow), I can show Dona and Rani what I had them looking for, hehe.

But yes, boss was okay with me taking the week. I told him Craig's going back to school next week (which is true) and I go back the week after that, so I wanted to take a vacation before then. I said it was kind of short notice, and for him to let me know if it was okay, and his response was "Have fun!". So yes, my boss can be annoying, but he does have good points.

Also started collecting for the next lottery pool, and I tried to tell as many people about it as possible. I told everyone if they weren't going to be around tomorrow to come give their money to me today, and Steve would come around tomorrow. Pat had her money brought down by Jewel, along with fourteen others. Also, if no one donates for Sharone, I'm going to put money in for her. We're kind of eh on her, but it's not right to exclude her from the pool because she's on vacation. If we hit, and she was left alone, I'd feel bad, as I'm sure a good chunk of IT would. I think she's actually on vacation for TWO weeks, so she wouldn't find out until she got back. Would be a nice surprise.

I know I did the transaction as a credit, but take the damn money already! I'd like to look at my account and see what I actually have, thank you! 9_9

Anyway... finally found out what psychology textbook I need for class... and it was a custom edition. McGraw-Hill lets instructors put together their own custom version of a textbook. Had the textbook been the regular version, I could've gotten it for $77 (lowest price I saw that wasn't an "international edition" from Thailand... the book is already a very recent book, still in its 1st edition), but because it was custom and I didn't want to end up with a book with different numbered pages or something, I had to buy it from the school bookstore... which meant paying, at the very least, $101.75 used, $135.63 (or something) new. I decided, screw it, and threw in the extra money for them to ship it to me. I'm already spending the money.

More issues with the office pool! Steve told me to tell everyone that the office pool was closed at 68 people, 340 sets of numbers. Right after I sent the e-mail, Patricia e-mailed back, "I have my $$$, who do I give it to?"

And then I took her money and slapped her in the face with it. (Not really. I wish I could've, though.)

I told her Steve had already gone around, and the pool was closed and no longer accepting money. She said, "He did, but I was in a video meeting." Mind you, EVERYONE ELSE who was not going to be around either gave their money to me earlier, or gave their money to someone else. This includes some of the ditzier people. The only one who didn't was the boss, because he was going to be late, and I actually put money in for him because I knew he was going to be late. Not Patricia. I told everyone yesterday Steve would be coming around, so she missed out. I'd feel bad if I didn't expressly tell everyone to expect Steve. Then again, she's really ditzy. She's the mayor of Cloudcuckooland. As I told Joseph, I couldn't do anything about it, because Steve had already bought the tickets.

She WAS a part of the first pool, though, so at the very least, she has nine sets of numbers to go on tonight, along with the numbers she'll undoubtedly buy for herself, because I don't know anyone who's not buying their own set. Office pools are great when they hit. Looking out for #1's better if YOU hit. (I've already got it in my mind that if I do hit it by myself, my coworkers are getting some. At least a few of them. Maureen, Joseph, and Dona, most definitely.)

And one more thing: Sharone's on vacation. No one put money in for her. A fair few of us have a low opinion of her, but what shocked me was Fofie put money in for herself, but not her supposed BFF. I told Mom, that shows you who your friends are.

So I went to work, and all was relatively fine. However, I did get more confirmation that the 24th floor houses some idiotic people:

We had an office pool going for Mega Millions, and we won $9. (We won $12 honestly, and I showed Steve, but we think the guy that checked the tickets stiffed him one winner. I should have asked which guy he got the tickets from. I suspect I know.) We're starting up another pool for tomorrow. He said to tell everyone he's going to come around at 10am, so I sent the e-mail saying anyone who wasn't in the first pool who wants in can now join the second pool, we're asking for $5, have exact change if possible, and he'll come by at 10am. I sent it at 2:05pm.

Cue two phone calls, two e-mails, and one in-the-flesh visit asking if he'd come around already or stating they hadn't seen him go around.

If I send the e-mail in the afternoon and I say he's coming around in the morning...

So apparently, I have to spell everything out, because people upstairs think the IT department's gotten our hands on a TARDIS and can go back four hours to collect money for lottery tickets. Not that that wouldn't release killer flying time monkeys to eat everyone/everything or anything.

*headdesk*

$5 Lottery game, top prize being $500.

The ONLY reason I'd consider playing this game is the fact that the top prize is under $600, so I could cash it in at a retailer and skip taxes on it. The odds are decent, too. Still, $5 is kinda steep...

Put in an application for a loan. I know, flip-flop. XD; Credit card and Ashworth. I need to keep in mind that I have to pay them off.

True Blood isn't coming on next week, damnit. It is, but they're rerunning the first three episodes for people to catch up. Next new episode's not for two weeks, sob.

I have chocolate chip cookies and milk. I am a happy CJ.

And I think tomorrow I'll try a writing sprint. I did this and got 5,648. I know I won't reach that tomorrow unless I have no distractions after the Ops meeting, but I'm game.

I was SO tired today, and that's after being dead asleep before 10pm last night and not waking up until nearly 6:30 this morning... and I only woke up at that time because I'm conditioned.

Yesterday I took my $9 in winning Win For Life tickets back to the guy I got them from, to play a set of numbers I got on my birthday. (I've decided those are going to be my numbers for the year, rather than rely on quick picking... although the numbers themselves are the result of a quick pick. ^^;) I played five games of them on Mega Millions, and then gave the guy the two $2 winners and told him I wanted those numbers for four drawings. I told him four drawings like three times. He went and gave me the four drawings... and then printed a fifth, completely unrelated ticket, and tried to tell me I owed him a dollar. Naturally I took the ticket, because there was no way he was winning on that thing. I always take mistake tickets.

... and now that I'm looking at what he did, he actually gave me four drawings of a QUICK PICK, not MY numbers. The fifth ticket was my set of numbers. Dumbass. I know he only printed it that way so he could get the dollar.

No one hit Lotto. I'm kinda expecting it to get up to $42 million, and then it's mine.
