My computer...

I'm on the computer in Craig's room. My laptop has seriously flipped it. I turned it on from its hibernation, and everything but the desktop pic came up, which is normal... so I double-clicked the LJ icon to bring up the client and clicked on Trillian to sign into MSN to check my e-mail... and EVERYTHING disappeared from the screen. Nothing was left but the default gray background that comes with the silver Windows XP skin.
Fine. Whatever. I turned the computer off after unsuccessful attempts at bringing up the task manager. Y'know, Ctrl+Alt+Del.
Turn it back about ten seconds later, and the thing's mental. It tells me Windows didn't start successfully after an incorrect shutdown, and gives me options for starting it up. Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, blah blah blah, Start Windows Normally. I try to start normally first--I always do, because the vast majority of the time, it works. It didn't. It went to the Windows XP Professional screen that shows it's loading, then flashed a VERY quick blue screen (something you are NOT supposed to see in XP), and when right back to the Safe Mode screen. I tried the next option. Same thing. Tried the last three options. Blue screen, blue screen, blue screen.
So now I'm really nervous and freaking out about the damn computer, because my stuff is on that thing, and if I don't have it at the IRS, I'm going to be SO bored (and will have to waste battery life listening to music on a retarded CD player instead of using the AC adapter on the laptop), and MY STUFF IS ON THERE, and there's absolutely nothing in the manual describing such a problem, and I've never seen this happen before.
And MY STUFF is on there. More than a thousand MP3s, many of the damn annoying to find and actually be able to download, anime episodes, programs, artwork that hasn't been uploaded anywhere and stuff I was working on, old fanfics that I don't have on paper anymore, other people's fanfics and art--oh, don't get me started on the My Pictures folder, that's just as bad as the My Music folder...
*wails*
And the really horrible thing? Dad got CASES of DVD-RWs that hold 4.7GB, and I was going to back stuff up and take it off the computer! Today!
Excuse my freakout. This will be fixed. And nothing will be lost, else I will be one hell of a pissed-off CJ.
EDIT: Random side note... I've been typoing more lately.

Date: 2004-04-10 05:43 pm (UTC)Happened to my mom. She was gonna put everything on backup, because her computer started going funny, and before she could, it totally zonked out on her. Lost everything.
Don't wanna scare you ^^; lol. Backups are a good idea when you have amassed as much stuff as...you have, lol.
*Gives a cookie* Hope all works well soon.
